Fancy Affordable Housing Cooperative, Inc (“Fancy House,”) is a collectively owned and operated home in the Cedar Park neighborhood of West Philadelphia. Fancy House was formed in 2000, when a group of friends and community organizing colleagues purchased the beautiful, three-story, century old Victorian twin home. Once home to the David H. Bowen Funeral Parlor, since the 2000 purchase one side of the home is inhabited as a single-family dwelling, while the connected side consists of four apartments.
Fancy House was incorporated in July 2012 and our 501(c)3 status is currently pending.
Over the years, we have hosted educational events in our communal space regarding issues of social and environmental justice in our community, including: urban farming & food justice, public health, criminal justice, the benefits of cooperatives, land trusts, community gardening, food access, & gentrification.
